Bizarre Life Remix
an original anthology consisting of
pages from six Bizarre Life magazine issues

The contents of this anthology were taken from six issues of Bizarre Life magazine:

Bizarre Life 5, Spring 1968

Bizarre Life 10, Summer 1969

Bizarre Life 11, Fall 1969

Bizarre Life 14, January/February 1971

Bizarre Life 15, Winter 1971

Bizarre Life 17, 1971.

In addition to his now legendary Exotique of the 1950’s, Leonard Burtman launched a number of fetish-related, full-sized magazines in the 1960s and 1970s. The titles included High Heels, Satana, Striparama, Leg Show, Stocking Parade, Three, and others.

Reusing photos and illustrations, any picture set placed in one Burtman title was likely to be found in another with slightly different text and a modified selection of images. Most production factors reflect an occupation with economy, with the possible exception of the clay-coated paper.

This collection shows femdom/male sub photo sets from these six issues. Issue 15 reprints pictorials from other magazines and only the Ruiz and Jim comics are used. Issue 17 focused on male dom themes and only Gene Bilbrew’s Gaucho Girls, filler photos, and "The Discipline Diary of Miss Marchant" have been included in this anthology.

Usually introduced by a Stanton or Bilbrew illustration, the anthology includes femdom stories titled:

High-Heeled Tyrant, Part 1

Audrey Wishart Wears the Pants

Lash to Stardom

House of Torture

Dominated Duo

Domestic Discipline

The best of today’s fetish magazines show photos of professional models by professional photographers, often taken in a studio. Mr. Burtman’s photos of dancers and amateur models were shot in offices and apartments. Then, the popular lighting method was flashbulbs, the inept use of which added undesirable shadows.

Modern production tools allow us to reduce many shortcomings of the original images, but some pictures show moire, shadows or poor contrast. Illustrations appear with clarity.

Page layouts have been revised to fill empty margins with enlarged pictures. The content of each issue is preceded by its cover. Issues are presented in chronological order.

All original scans. About 170 pages.

Court decisions of the early 1960s expanded the spectrum of legally acceptable published content. Feminism suggested new sexual modalities. In this cultural milieu, Bizarre Life came into existence. With respect and appreciation for the work of mid-century pioneers, this volume presents some of the best of the period’s s/m genre magazine pages.
