When Secret Captives was first sold, the Bizarre Books series was winding down. In earlier volumes, drawings were rendered to illustrate the story. Here, they seem to be culled from other books with indifference to narrative continuity.

The title misrepresents as there are no captives; every character is a happy volunteer. The back-cover summary describes what the story should be, but isn't . . . .

In his latest achievement in the twilight zone of the bizarre, Steve Driver turns a piercing spotlight on a strange weekend, and the carnal happenings that rock the lives of the lusty men and women involved. It is an adventure so unusual that it makes anything else you've ever read seem like a fairy tale as these hapless young adults are put through chilling paces. Virile men are turned into whimpering slaves and modest women into haughty dominas as the pent-up passions of a dangerously repressed sexuality takes its toll!

What we do have is an orgiastic free-for-all that begins in a van that's trapped in a freeway traffic jam on a hot day. Art accepts an invitation to enter the van, cool off in its air conditioning and have a beer.

In this fantasy, he meets beautiful girls — Laura and Sue — who can't think of anything better to do with their time than have sex with young men. And the two guys — Don and Ray — they're with, seem comfortable sharing everything they have with a sweaty stranger.

The four of them are heading to the mountain A-frame of their friend Jack and invite Art to come along. There, he meets Jack, Brenda and identical twins Candy and Randy. Everyone takes off their clothes and the four men have a round-robin taste of sex with each of the six women.

They're all insatiable. Women ask for sex. And to be bound with ropes and chains. But it's not a male or female domination scenario. Their bondage functions as a condiment at the sexual banquet, like real people might use it.

In most Bizarre Books, the cover scene gets repeated on an interior page. Not here. The characters of Secret Captives are too occupied with their sex-fest to don stockings. But Mr. Ward's art shows long gloves, garter belts, nylons, high heels and corsets on his voluptuous beauties, although there are no references to them in the narrative.

Character moods are almost dreamy as they connect in heterosexual passion. In the idyllic, woodsy setting and rural quiet, 10 adults decide to indulge their desires in a delicious buffet of carnal delights during a summer weekend.

Other than mention of Jack as a friend, there is no pre-history that frames relationships. The scene is peaceful. If there's pain, it's because women request it to intensify their pleasure.

The text was re-set for the ebook iteration. Few changes were made to the flowing prose. 41000 words.

A dozen illustrations by the Great Bill Ward decorate the book. His pictures delineate grand female forms wearing some fetish apparel, and moods that morph from fun to fury.

Mr. Ward's fine ink renderings were optimized for the ebooks. Virtual enlargements of action and figure features are intended to reduce the need for zooming and scrolling.

Images were adjusted for the ebooks. In the digital iterations, pictures appear with smooth edges on more than 40 pages.
