With a publishing date of 1972 and other qualities, Revenge of the Wantons must have been among the first of Hilbarth's illustrated fiction products. At just under 12,000 words, this early project's word count comes in about 2000 short of subsequent efforts. Mr. Wards ink flows with agility and grace, rendering gorgeous female protagonists in sexy undies and high heels.


Set in southern England, this is a turnabout tale of two newly wed couples: Lord and Lady (Frieda) Craven and their staff Jeremy and Tricia, the maid. The men are sadists who enjoy hurting their wives, who object to this abuse. [“Two gorgeous females were forced to be slaves to their husbands’ demented cravings.”] But Frieda also has an appetite for punishing.


The first part of the long short story provides multiple episodes in which Lord Craven torments his wife with whip, paddle, and tight leather cord. But he also enjoys spanking and quirting Tricia.


Jeremy, the head groom, binds and whips his wife. When Frieda enters the stable in search of fun, Jeremy shows no hesitation about binding and whipping his stunning mistress. In a bedroom scene, he spanks her with his belt and ties her to a bedpost.


In search of her own prey, Frieda takes a drive in the country and picks up a young hitchhiker who's dazzled by her beauty. In her Bentley, she spanks him with her gloved hand and his leather belt and makes him cry.


The two women discuss their predicament and devise revenge to rehabilitate their husbands. Frieda begins by telling Tricia what Jeremy has done:

“ . . . he raped me out in the stables the other day. He tied me to a beam and beat me with a whip, then stuck me with the pitchfork."

"Oh m'Lady, how could he? I've endured his brutality stoically, but if he's starting on you now . . . oh I hate him so," Tricia sobbed incoherently.

"Would you like to get even with him, Tricia? In a way that he wouldn't know that it was we that were doing it to him?" Lady Craven asked quietly.

"Oh, yes, m'Lady, I want to beat him to within an inch of his life," Tricia cried.

" . . . I can speak with a French accent, he'll never know that it's us."

Lady Craven, her excitement mounting as she realized at long last she was going to have her revenge, drove into town and saw a leather craftsman . . . She gave him an order to make two leather masks, and a pair of thigh-high red leather boots with platform soles and ten inch skyscraper heels. The boots would go a long way towards deceiving her husband, for he knew she had none that color.

“ . . . we have to wear disguises or we would be recognized" said Frieda as she set the box down on her bed and opened the box.

She assisted her mistress into her leather garments, placing a knee on a massive bottom cheek as she tugged the laces of her long pearl gray corset.

"Oh, m'Lady, you look fantastic," Tricia cried as she stared at her mistress' exquisite red leather boots, her waist nipped-in to an incredible degree by the binding corset, making her breasts seem unbelievably huge.

Tricia was wearing a pair of her mistress' long black kid gloves, and one of her black leather corselettes, both women's features hidden from view by their black leather hoods as they exited by the front door . . .


In leather masks, the two wives inflict well-deserved punishment on their spouses with multiple disciplinary techniques and utensils. Lord Craven experiences frightening pain in the dungeon of his manor.


Filled with fetish and bdsm details, the easy-to-read text tells a fast-moving story that describes character dynamics and exotic appetites. The contrived situation functions as a useful pretext for exposition of sadistic compulsions.


The text was re-set for the ebook. Few changes were made to the competent prose or its colorful vocabulary.


In pursuit of alignment of images and prose, the text was set in a large typeface and short columns. As possible, pictures were placed near corresponding story elements.


Pictures show the skill of the Great Bill Ward at the peak of his abilities, rendering lovely damsels in distress and engaged in revenge. Female characters dress in fetish attire. Nylons, corsets, garter belts, long gloves and high-heeled footwear gleam on curvaceous bodies.


These 1972 inked illustrations show little nudity. The ladies wear panties or have limbs arranged to conceal genitalia. Males bulge within their briefs.


The brightness and contrast of images were adjusted. All new scans of the complete 1972 edition.


In the original, a caption was placed below each illustration. In the ebook, complete illustrations, including borders, are placed on the right end of pages, and captions appear on the left, in italics. Tasty fetish details — such as figure features, action, nylons, gloves, high heels and corsets — appear on separate pages as virtual enlargements, reducing the need for zooming and scrolling.


The optimized ebooks page size was expanded for this volume to make the most of the large pictures in the paper publication. The original had the construction and dimensions of a full-sized magazine. The layout alternated text on even-numbered pages with pictures on odd-numbered pages.


The product includes a second optimized ebook containing only illustrations. In both ebook iterations, 24 pictures are optimized on more than 90 pages.
