Leg Art, Number 49

Possibly the first photographer to use the expression Leg Art, Elmer Batters' long career as photographer and publisher of pinup, cheesecake and fetish imagery earned him international appreciation. With a clear idea of a female ideal and unwavering point of view, he collaborated with magazine publishers in the 1950s and 1960s. By the 1970s, he was selling his booklet sized Leg Art to members of his Royal Order of the Garter by subscription.

Leg Art, Number 49, shows two pretty sweethearts in the throes of sensuous fetish play. Tongues explore succulent toes and other precious femininity. Several photographs show the splendid architecture of carefully posed feet within the graphics of full-fashioned hosiery. Surely, Mr. Batters' exploration of this idiom defines the genre.

But 16 pages, the booklet shows a cover price of $10.00, a huge amount for a small volume. At the time, it exposed never-before-seen tableaux of girl/girl foot worship, expressed with unique competence. And the dollar amount may have been a packaging tactic to inspire cost confidence in his subscribers.

The digital replica includes all the content of the booklet in the original sequence and at the original size. Two sides of a flyer advertising an audio tape are added at the end of the ebook.

Brightness and contrast were adjusted and many specks retouched. Except for the centerfold, interior pages printed in color are placed as monochrome.

All new scans.

The optimized version shows each scene complete, followed by enlargements of feet and other pulchritude.

Elmer Batters was a professional photographer and his magazines show good pictures, without unpleasant shadows. Like most creative people, he developed craft and focus throughout his life. By the time of Leg Art, he had become an entrepreneur with complete control of his content. In the century after his death, ebooks present his skill and audacity.

Leg Show, Volume 5, Number 3
This issue of Leg Show lives up to its name with galleries of shapely gams and a plethora of pleasing posers. Lithe ladies reflect the styles of liberated times in their cosmetics and hair cuts. Those who wear shoes prefer sandals with thick, wood heels. Most hosiery is the stretch type, lycra-laden blends without sheen, held in place by both garter belts and frilly garters. One model wears lace stockings. In some pictures, fingers play an important role.

We've seen two of the models in Eros Goldstripe pictorials with furious femdom personae. Here, they're seen in repose, contemplating their own allure. This contrast demonstrates what every Goldstripe zine disclaims: that the pictures do not depict the actual personality or conduct of models.

The digital replica presents all content in the 56-page magazine in the original sequence. A few page layouts were revised for better fit.

Tonality was adjusted and many specks retouched. Printed on thin and rough paper, some photographs show specks and texture. Some photos are deliberately grainy.

All new scans.

Provocative posers invite us to join them in serene salons and boudoirs, where we can share quiet matinees of serious sensuality. The ebook provides a convenient connection to those pretty legs in stockings.

NOTE:
Although some parts of pictures are obscured on this page, the ebook shows everything that's in the original.
