Slaves in Ancient Rome — 20 episodes
Slaves in Ancient Rome comic serial was advertised in Irving Klaw Numbered Bulletin 87 in the form of photographic prints in June 1954. The work precedes Baroness Steel.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bélier Press republished many of Mr. Klaw's bondage comics in a multi-volume series titled Bizarre Comix. Although the quality of Slaves in Ancient Rome compares well to the comic serials in Bizarre Comix volumes, this excellent work has not be published by anyone for more than 50 years.

The text tells us that Empress Jupitra ruled a concurrent Roman empire populated only by women. Women warriors served in the army, the main purpose of which was to raid the nearby female Greek state, seizing plunder and slaves. Sometimes the Greek warriors won battles and took Roman soldiers as slaves. Both armies enforced a cruel regimen of complex punishments on their captives.

In Slaves in Ancient Rome, Jim idealizes female forms, delineating voluptuous bodies in uncomfortable postures. Most of his characters have the same hourglass figure, with firm, high-set breasts, rounded hips, strong thighs, long, curvaceous legs, and dainty feet and toes.

Jim's lovely damsels wear bras, most of which are strapless, and panties of many flattering designs that incorporate rings, buckles, laces, scallops, fringes, net inserts and short skirts of soft fabric, sometimes with pleats. Some captives have bare feet, but most wear high-heeled sandals and mules with sexy configurations of straps and panels.

His antique setting precludes the industrial mechanisms of modern locales. Rope and are the most used bondage materiel here. These are fastened to posts, cuffs, rings, walls, columns, rods, wood stocks and a chariot. Clamps and diverse gag devices also punish slaves.

Arms, necks, and legs are stretched, bent and twisted, causing discomfort for captives, often shown on faces, some of which show tears. The devices pose sublime bodies in unpleasant contortions, well-suited to the optimal display of limber female figures. In one episode, arrows draw blood.

Each episode consists of one or two pictures on top and two columns of text on the bottom. The prose describes the action shown in the panels above and was probably written by Mr. Klaw.

digital replica
The digital replica presents 20 episodes with their original layouts. Blocks of text were rotated to square them with the page, as necessary. To present content as large as possible, text in the top and bottom margins was excised. A sample episode showing typical margin text is included at the end of the ebook.

Brightness and contrast were adjusted. All original scans. Authentic and complete.

optimized ebook
The optimized ebook presents each panel in a sequence of exposures. First, the panel is shown complete, with borders, and nothing else on the wide ebook page. Most panels contain multiple characters, and the next page shows one figure from top to toe. The next pages show enlargements of figure features. Then, another character from the same panel is shown complete followed by close-ups of regions of interest, a few of which are rotated to show another view.

Sensuous detail and feminine curves fill Jim's illustrations and are difficult to appreciate when viewed in their entirety. He made pictures with a delicious density that is sometimes obscured by all that's packed into a single frame. The optimized ebook deconstructs bustling scenes into their finely-wrought components, revealing the expert draftsmanship and inventive sensuality of this gifted artist for easy inspection and enjoyment.

Historic, erotic and fun, this unique presentation of one of Jim's best early works is a must-have digital asset for fans of this 20th-century master of line and form.

Fearless Lillian in Trouble — 30 episodes
Most of Adolfo Ruiz' comic serials are set in Central America or the Southwest. Fearless Lillian in Trouble has maritime, Parisian, sylvan, theatrical and Middle Eastern design elements, with many scenes set on ocean-going ships.

Raggedy shorts and strapless bras mix with fancy gowns and lace-trimmed undies. In and high-heeled sandals with ankle straps, Mr. Ruiz' shapely ladies look like 1950s pinups. Most wear stockings, held in place by garter belts.. Faces, hair and make-up seem to have been informed by movie actresses of the 1940s and 1950s, as do the “perils” that hold them captive.

Most episodes consist of four comic panels, with narrative text in bordered rectangles and a few dialog balloons. The artist uses a palette of grays and black to show shadow and contour, especially on nylons.

“Lillian, with an important government mission, is attacked by two strange girls.” Tightly bound, she's taken to a sailing ship and thrown into the brig. There, she meets Mimi, who tells one of two stories within the story, about being captured in Paris and bound, escaping, then being re-captured and taken to the ship.

The female pirate crew answers to Zulema, who works her captives in fields and sells them as slaves. Lillian and Mimi are subjected to stringent bondage with ropes, chains, cuffs and poles and several painful ordeals.

Two ebook versions of Fearless Lillian in Trouble are included. The optimized version shows each comic panel on a separate, wide ebook page. To show characters as large as possible, some of the narrative blocks were re-positioned. A digital replica presents the 30 pages in Bizarre Comix, Volume 16.

Priscilla, Queen of Escapes — 30 episodes
Mr. Klaw advertised episodes of Priscilla, Queen of Escapes in product bulletins in 1952, which makes this comic serial among Mr. Stanton's earliest. The 30 episodes have the format of a comic, with multiple panels, narrative blocks and dialog balloons. While the ink drawings have a comic book quality, without grays, but with regions of black that show vertical surfaces and shadows. Bodies are shapely, heels are high and stocking seams are straight.

The setting is an all-girl circus, where Priscilla extricates herself from padlocked chains and cuffs. Sexy Leona in boots and short dress whips big animals into entertainers.

Leona and cohorts capture and bind Priscilla and her pals. A tiger, bear, gorilla and elephant threaten innocent captives. Circus ropes are used to suspend victims in painful configurations, mostly in the big top but also between two railroad cars.

While not his best work, Mr. Stanton's pictures show an exercise of talent that betrays his fondness for and fluency with slender female figures. While he does good work showing the drape of soft fabric on shapely bodies, performers often appear half-dressed, in bra, large panties, garter belt and stockings. His lovely characters show off pretty legs in high-heeled shoes.

Two ebooks display the appealing details of Priscilla and her predicaments. The optimized version presents one or two comic panels per ebook page. The digital replica shows each of the 30 episodes, as originally sold by Irving Klaw, with unmodified page layouts.
