For the uninitiated, it is very difficult to relate foot and heel fetishism with sexual satisfaction, erotic arousal, and especially, with the urge toward self-abasement and the desire to su bmi t to the abuse of another. This final item, the relationship between high-heel fetishism and masochism even escapes the wary eye of the psychoanalytic writer and researcher.

An example of the last point can be taken from Havelock Ellis's classic work on the spectrum of human sexual behavior. Tht Psychology of Sex. Ellis believed that the definition of abnormal behavior, and in essence, its root cause, was the substitution of inanimate objects for the body of the female in the mind and the sexual imagination of the invert or fetishist in question. Although this is a bit of an unfair condensation of Ellis's well elaborated logical argument and explanation, it is the kernel of what he is saying.

We should keep in mind that Ellis was aware that the roots of all the "perverse" and even anti-social forms of sexual behavior, including homosexuality, exhibitionism and all of the various material and body fetishes, are commonplace parts of everyone's basically "polymorphous perverse" childhood orientation — the aberrant adult merely has a stronger and more compelling (often totally compelling) streak of infantile fixation on either an object, a certain form of pleasure (i.e.. analism) or a certain part of the body of the female, such as the foot.

Fetishism, by the way, as a phenomenon viewed in the broadest possible scope, seems to be almost entirely a playground or affliction restricted to the male animal — who ever heard of a female jockstrap sucker, or a woman who got off on a partialistic addiction to a part of the body? As Ellis says, perhaps there are female fetishists and partialists. but our society seems to be much more tolerant of deviance in the female, and most of the case history documentation available on all the forms of sexual aberration come from the first and primary source — the police arrest records, and then, later, from the psychiatric hospitals.

The reasons why males are prone to fetishism has been explained by the mechanics of the male sexual response — the female relates basically to romance and is aroused by tactile stimulation in the genital area. The male, on the other hand, responds to a much wider variety of stimulus, including visual, aural, olfactory and tactile. He is said to be more easily conditioned to respond to inanimate objects, such as rubber, leather (tactile), shoes, hair clothing, and parts of the body (through the visual and tactile areas, as well as the senses of smell and taste). The stimulus (as we shall see shortly in our case history interviews) is usually applied accidentally in childhood and it comes out in the form of an addiction later in life, when full, physiological sexual maturity is reached. The male finds himself "infantilely fixated" in his erotic responses to the particular texture, object or part of the body that stimulated his thwarted desires as a child.

The ebook contains all content of the 48-page magazine, including advertising. Page sequence was revised to obtain continuity of the prose piece. A few page layouts were revised slightly. Empty margins, superfluous borders and a small amount of walls and floors were excised.
