Kaysey Sales was one of many corporate identities used by Leonard Burtman after legal problems necessitated that he abandon Burmel Publishing Company, which he used for most of his 1950s Exotique products. A lot has been written about his Bizarre Costume Catalog, which was advertised as part of a Tana Louise and Mara Gaye enterprise but shows no publisher. Although similar in focus and content, Costume Catalog Annual stands as a unique mid-century fetish artifact that predates its better-known sister.

Without prices or model numbers, the purpose of Costume Catalog Annual cannot be the sale of merchandise. An aspiring buyer was required to complete a form bound into the last page of the booklet, asking Kaysey Sales to provide information and prices for what he described.

It's a collection of photos and drawings intended to satisfy the visual appetites of fetishists. A few photos of shoes were probably appropriated from footwear and hosiery advertising that appeared in mainstream magazines.

Most of the illustrations were crafted by Gene Bilbrew. His precise ink renderings show boots, shoes, gloves, dresses, rubber wear and belts.

The catalog divides its wares into categories:

Shoes and Boots

Corsets and Belts

Satin and Leather Dresses

Rubber Apparel

Riding Apparel

Gloves

Stockings

Lingerie

Some of these chapters are a couple of pages. Footwear is the longest chapter.

Some pictures seem to be leftovers from photo shoots that also appeared in Exotique branded booklets. Models include —

• Tana Louise

• Nanette Rockwell

• Heather Christy

• Anita Ventura

• Diane Kirby

• Brandee Kayse

• Libby Jones.

For those who enjoy the fetish styles of Exotique, Costume Catalog Annual offers a lot of it on more than 90 pages. About half the booklet shows one picture per page. Other pages contain as many as six small images.

The digital replica contains all content of the square-bound booklet in the original page sequence. Some walls, floors and empty margins were cropped out.

Brightness, contrast and levels were adjusted and many specks re-touched. Most images transposed to ebook format with clarity.
