Bizarre Books novels explore the outer reaches of the sexual domination universe. Stories present female or male sadists or, sometimes, a mix of genders in a hierarchy. The cruelty and grotesqueness of fantasy ordeals justifies the bizarre appellation.
In The Pain Lover, Mr. Stone carved a stunning British bitch who makes a living by hurting and humiliating wealthy Londoners. When young Yank Joe Addison mistakenly knocks on her door in search of lodging, Madame Sada de Melny recognizes his suitability for the role of resident servant. The remainder of the book guides us through a masochist netherworld, steaming with torment and degradation.
We meet Harold Ladmoore, a client who adores his contemptuous mistress because she assails him with exquisite tortures. Later, we find Stephanie, his sex-obsessed daughter, chained to a wall. Madame Sada directs Joe to attend to her wanton hunger, a task he's eager to accomplish.
Elderly Bastion Dinsmith, another regular customer, delights at meeting young Joe. Madame Sada orchestrates Joe's first homosexual experience with the old man during a kinky house call.
The sexy dominatrix alternates routine household tasks with whimsical humiliations and painful flogging. She mixes verbal abuse, bondage and a raft of rectum-centric rituals that bewilder and shame the innocent young submissive.
In his early days as Madame's butler and sex slave, Joe considers and attempts escape. A subplot entwines shop girl Penelope Cardew in Joe's London sojourn. When she involves a policeman in what she believes to be Joe's captivity, he decides to remain with the Madame. The last pages of the novel provide this explanation of his masochism:
He had been given an opportunity to forever free himself from Madame Sada de Melny’s cruel domination, but he had decided against it. Or, more properly, perhaps, the question had already been decided for him by that defect in his character which required the exquisite pain and pleasure that only a strong-willed female like Madame Sada could bring him. Before he unwittingly stepped through her door into the maelstrom of torture and degradation, Joe had been nothing, a cipher. With the magnificently cruel and demanding woman, he was, at least, a living, breathing person. An object of scorn and ridicule, perhaps. A focus for her unbelievable contempt and ridicule and inhuman degradation.
And that made all the difference to the young American. Madame Sada smiled knowingly, patting Joe’s head as if he were an adored pet, running her slender fingers through his hair in smug triumph, realizing that she had won again.
“You realize what this means, don’t you, Joseph?” she asked, her voice hardening. “You’re my property, to do with as I please?”
Mr. Stone's expert prose takes us on a twisting tour of sadist/masochist dynamics. References to London neighborhoods and native vernacular in dialog add authenticity and color. He describes the vicious protagonist's spectacular figure, and the fetish clothing and footwear that adorn it. His fluency in flavors, scents, textures and torment animates the text.
The text was re-set for the ebook. Few changes were made.
Twelve Bill Ward illustrations embellish the book with pictures that complement the narrative. About half relate to scenes described in the narrative and others depict similar tableaux.
Mr. Ward's sensuous art is optimized on more than 50 pages. Virtual enlargements of image segments expose figure features, action and fetish elements. This presentation technique reduces the need for zooming and scrolling.
As possible, pictures were placed in the ebook near prose that describes them. As some pictures have no related text, they were located near text that has no corresponding art. Not all scenes depicted in the story are shown in the pictures.
Brightness and contrast of images were adjusted. Most appear with clear white backgrounds and lines with smooth edges.
All new scans. Female nudity.
A second ebook shows only the optimized art on more than 50 pages.
