In Female Mimics, we meet men who entertain professionally, singing, dancing and telling jokes on the stages of cabarets. The fourth issue of this classic magazine focuses on successful performers.

Photographed in Mr. Burtman's apartment, dainty Holli White shows femininity in a big blond wig. She poses in strappy, high-heeled sandals and assorted lingerie, including waist-cincher, leather panties, leather bra, lace tights and long gloves. Blurbs tout his acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.

Pianist and singer, Minette provides an auto-biographical essay. As a child, she learned how to do impressions from her aunt and performed a kiddie act in burlesque and vaudeville. The piece tells of the many American venues at which Minette performed and artistes with whom she appeared. Accompanying photos show her in a variety of gowns and guises.

When Boy Becomes Girl introduces us to Gigi Duval and shows how a gifted makeup artist transforms him from gentleman to glittery lady in stockings, mules and fur stole.

At the age of 20, Baby Martell was an established star among female impersonators in Europe and the US. In these photographs, he displays his feminine side in a gown and then reveals curves in bustier, mules, panties and stockings over pale fishnet tights.

Photos picture Kitt Rogers applying makeup and falsies. He appears in tight-fitting gowns and in a sweater, garter belt, lace panties, hosiery and mules.

On the eve of their American tour, an article describes Canadian female impersonator revue Cherchez La Femme. They claimed to feature the most beautiful men in the world. Performers included American Gene Chandler, a Jewel Box Revue alumnus.

In his piece about the history of female impersonation, Carlson Wade begins his account in ancient times. His account winds through Europe, including references to Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth I, Duke Philippe of Orleans, Abbe de Choissy, Harry LeClaire, Oscar Wilde and Julian Eltinge. The essay ends with information on how to become a mimic and types of impersonators. Pictures include one of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis dressed as women for Billy Wilder's Some Like It Hot.

The digital replica contains all the content of the original 72-page magazine, including letters from readers (with snapshots) and advertising. Some page layouts have been changed. Page sequence was revised to obtain continuity of the article. This required that one page be split in two and positioned on separate ebook pages.

Photo tone was adjusted, and specks retouched, achieving bright images and mostly smooth textures. The original magazine has good photography and the ebook makes the most of it.

All new scans.
