Ropes of Lust
A paperback novel illustrated by Bill Ward and published by Eros, Ropes of Lust is branded and numbered as part of the Bondage Press series. It differs from Bizarre Books in a few ways.
Ropes of Lust ends on page 160; Bizarre Books paperbacks end on page 192. At 28,000 words, Ropes of Lust has about 10,000 fewer words than a typical BB volume.
The first few dozen Bizarre Books offerings had 16 pictures in each. Following inception of the series, volumes contained but 12. Bizarre Books illustrations were centered on pages, surrounded by an empty margin of about half an inch.
Ten years later, pictures in Bondage Press paperbacks bleed at page edges — the images end beyond the page. Some of the pictures in Ropes of Lust are missing small peripheral regions of hair, elbows, fingers and footwear. But there are 16 excellent ink drawings by the great Mr. Ward.
At least half of the 16 pictures have little connection to the prose. Although these pictures express the fetish/domination/bondage themes we've seen in other Bill-Ward-illustrated fiction — and enhance the experience of reading the similarly-themed prose — they may have been used in earlier publications. For example, the text refers to activities of two young prostitutes on many pages, but no picture shows two women. One picture has a beach as a background, but the text never mentions a beach. The action takes place in The Valley.
Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the well-crafted story mixes the business and proclivities of professional dominatrix Mistress T. with a police search for a local serial killer dubbed the Rope Freak.
When two hookers are brought in, Lieutenant Joe Largo gives them a pass in exchange for sexual treats. When Largo arrests Mistress T., she offers disclosure of the killer's identity in exchange for her freedom.
Back at her place, T. seduces Joe but denies him satisfaction. When drugs wear off, he finds himself chained to a wall in her basement dungeon. While he isn't a pain-seeking customer, the beautiful dominatrix takes her pleasure on the cop by hurting him. Scared and confused, he soon decides that obedience may help him avoid some of her angry punishment.
The Mistress keeps her promise to identify the killer, but Joe endures multiple torments and humiliations before and after he meets the culprit. With both Joe and customer Harry, T. demands body and boot worship during punishment sessions.
The narrative delivers colorful descriptions of discipline implements and the torments they cause. The masochist client experiences pain and pleasure. Mistress T's carefully-crafted dialog avoids the pretentious ritualism often found in dominatrix characters. She presents as a lascivious sadist who enjoys her work.
The text was re-set for the ebook iteration. Few changes were made to vocabulary, but some spelling, punctuation and grammar modifications were made.
The ebook shows the covers and all content of the paperback book. Tasty fetish features of 16 dynamic images by the Great Bill Ward are repeated, enlarged, on separate pages (as shown above, on the right). Two pictures and their derivatives were mixed into each of the book's eight chapters. The ebook shows pictures on 70 optimized pages.
Drawings show females in dominant roles, as punishers, with males as their victims. Women wear high-heeled shoes and boots, nylons, garter belts, gloves, and corsets. Costumes expose voluptuous pulchritude but male genitalia are usually obscured by stretched jockey shorts.
Illustrations depict some incidents in the story and the splendid figure of the dominating character. As story content permits, page sequence positions pictures close to related prose, but many pictures have no corresponding text. Many events in the prose do not appear in the pictures.

Perverse Punishment
Without text, the German booklet collects about 30 pictures by Bill Ward and one by Gene Bilbrew. Most scenes depict episodes of male and female domination of women.
In this collection, Mr. Ward's style has a more comic tone, and a few images show characters involved in sexual activities. In victim and aggressor roles, female characters appear in garter belts, nylons, corsets, long gloves, boots and high heels. Ropes and whips help set scenes.

No words need explain Mr. Ward's dynamic tableaux. In the century after his death, his art continues to articulate an explicit erotic parlance that requires no translation.
