Catalogs have much to interest fetishists, as they are published by companies that seek to sell objects of fascination to a discriminating clientele. The esoteric merchandise must be shown in ways that convince the reader/collector that they will meet specific expectations of customers.

The book is a catalog, with six pages of advice on the application of make-up. Spelling and diction of the prose indicates that the origin of the publication is British. The absence of address or copyright owner suggests that this was a sales tool intended to be used in more than one country.

In Stagedoor, careful illustrations of women in sexy lingerie, high heels and dresses render a fetish ideal that rivals much of the erotic art of the post-Bilbrew/Stanton era. The focus here is on fetish attire: undergarments, footwear, hosiery and accessories — frilly, lacy, uplifting, shape-enforcing. Although self-described as transvestite wear, the drawn characters appear to be pretty young women, without a trace of masculinity (as appears intentionally in Mr.Bilbrew’s skillful illustrations). The slightly stylized characters wear wigs, corsets, panties, waist-cinchers, slips, garter belts, stockings, night gowns, maid uniforms, school girl uniforms, blouses, skirts, dresses and shoes and boots with high heels. [The compensatory padding and restraint needed by transvestites to complete their female illusion are shown on but a few pages.]

The digital replica presents each page in its original size and colors. Any of the pretty faces and figures could illustrate sexy fiction. The Stagedoor volume is an obscure but conscientious work that presents a clear vision of femininity in fetish foundations and footwear.
