Tan N' Terrific, Premier Issue
As most photos show legs in sheer hosiery, the first issue of Tan N' Terrific could easily have the word stockings in its title. Here, the declared diversity theme swirls around TANness, but the collection works just as well for a fetish motif.

We've seen samples from a few of these picture sets in 1960s Burtman publications, such as High Heels and Stocking Parade magazine. The WWNC world logo on the cover and ads for adult products with a Cleveland, Ohio address suggest connection to Reuben Sturman. Other than these clues, no publisher is identified. Frank Siegfried gets credits for his photography of Velvet Solange and Syra.

As in other pinup magazines, adjacent blurbs and titles hype the properties and qualities of models shown. Here, vocabulary shows ethnic focus.

Velvet Solange — Sepia Strip Star

Alicia Alvarez — Hot Tamale Adds Torrid Spice

Julie Green — This lovely ebony beauty is a private detective.

Syra — Dark Legs - Caramel-Skinned

Yvonne Garcia — Sexy Sepia Steno

Models, including Mona Lofton and Tara, pose in stockings and garter belt. Most wear heels, a few of them high.

The large format booklet also contains an essay titled Dance of Death. Illustrated with photographs taken on a rocky beach, the subject weaves voodoo, witch craft and sorcery with rituals involving skulls. By Betty Edwards.

The digital replica includes all content of the 68-page magazine in the original sequence, including one page of advertising. Some empty margins, borders, walls and carpet were cropped out to obtain a more convenient file size.

All new scans.

Tonality of photographs was adjusted, shadows reduced and specks retouched. Photography reflects professionalism. Most images transposed nicely to ebook format.

Honey, No. 1
On the other hand, in the world of Honey, panties don't exist. Its ideal pinup image presents full frontal exposure of shapely models, sometimes in garter belt and hosiery (see cover).

On the circle logo on page three, magazine distributor Central Sales announces its motto: ALL THE NUDES THAT'S FIT TO PRINT, a take-off on the New York Times' promise of All The News That's Fit To Print.

The publisher states that he, “ . . . seek[s] to communicate contemporary views relating sex to prevailing mores. We observe and report on life as it is.” For these boys, life as it is meant nudity.

Although pages are close to full-sized, the magazine contains but 32. Pictures of three models, including the cover girl, were placed randomly. Some pictures look like they were taken in a hotel room.

No text or graphic elements refer to individual models. Most pages contain one photo, often in color.

Possibly to discuss prevailing mores, the volume contains four essays:

SOCIAL WELFARE AND PORNOGRAPHY
Though obscenity issues are still largely a matter of law. social scientists now question the validity of assumptions linking erotic materials to antisocial behavior.

WHAT MAKES A PICTURE UNIQUE?
Many factors contribute to a picture but certain of them are of prime importance in the opinion of those who deal with them. To know what they are is to improve one's photo calibre.

STUDIOS IN THE FIELDS
Photographers accustomed to working either indoors or outdoors are missing a good bet by not combining features of both. Working a studio setting in natural light can lead to interesting studies.

A NUDIST VIEWS THE NUDE
At a time when nudity is gaining in popularity, our magazine questions a nudist as to the reaction of those who live without clothes. His comments are enlightening and encouraging.

The digital replica includes all content of the magazine in the original sequence, including advertising. Most ads include the words nude, nudist or nudity. Some curtains, walls and carpet were cropped out to obtain a more convenient file size.

All new scans.

Tonality of photographs was adjusted, shadows reduced. Photography reflects professionalism. Images transposed nicely to ebook format.

NOTE
Although some parts of pictures are obscured on this page, the ebook shows everything that's in the original.
