We could say that incidental prose in Black Garter is silly. But let's turn it around and characterize the tone as cheerful, lighthearted, brimming with praise and admiration. Most pictorials expose a single model in alluring poses. About half of these sequences conclude with a picture of the model with her back turned to the camera, showing panties or cheeks near the word “end”.

Zoftig babes present themselves with flirty smiles, lacy undies and fishnets. Pretty posers include Savona, Pat Wright, Beverly Ann, Pamela Perry, Colleen Tyler, Bernadette Massey, and Audrey Williams. Five lovelies bloom on the last 10 pages: Antoinette, Hope Hayden, Brenda Paul, Joan Rawlings, and Joan Statler.

Only Barky Baker wears stockings held in place by garters of any color. The premise for her set is television and picture-tube-shaped borders surround each of her photos.

Probably the best-know looker in the lot is sultry Jackie Miller. She poses on a sofa in fishnets and gloves. Her first-person blurb discusses acting gigs and ambitions.

Pages reflect interest in modern graphics of the 1960s, with lack of symmetry, superfluous lines, borders and bars, and many regions of black. Gratuitous suggestions and arrows instruct readers to turn pages. Some photography dramatizes shape with shadow. Several pages promote Silky magazine, another Synmag product.

The digital replica includes all content of the 68-page magazine in the original page sequence. Some of the page borders and edges were cropped. Tonality of photographs was adjusted, shadows reduced and specks re-touched.

Amazed and amused by the irresistible appeal of pretty women and the vulnerability it exposes in men, the magazine draws its audience into the fascination of its personnel and their craft. In this first issue, the cheesecake looks cool and tasty.
