In the 1950s, John Willie produced a series of comic stories centered on the frisky mishaps of his fetching damsel-in-distress, Gwendoline. This product includes re-statements of the Gwendoline melodramas by two of Willie's contemporary artists, Gene Bilbrew and Eric Stanton.

All ebooks in this product were derived from original scans.

Sweeter Gwen & The Return of Gwendoline
As a tribute to John Willie's Gwendoline, Eric Stanton created a parody titled Sweeter Gwen in 1962. This ink comic strip has been published many times and was serialized in Bizarre Life. Some episodes were included in our Bizarre Life ebooks. It was first presented in a digest-sized booklet with a spectacular color painting by Mr. Stanton, who was justifiably proud of his covers. It is a comic melodrama with villains and rescuers, most dressed in stockings, corsets and high heels.

A few years later, Mr. Stanton produced The Return of Gwendoline, a comic story that was also first presented in digest-format with a Stanton color cover. These are shaded pencil drawings of three voluptuous femmes and a dominated t-v maid, Eustace. Auntie phones Gwendoline's mistress, U-69, and asks her to come over to help improve Eustace's performance. Upon arrival, Auntie works to bring Gwendoline in line. Then the two dominant divas clash. This is some of Mr. Stanton's best drawing.

The Bélier Press volume of 1976 — Sweeter Gwen & The Return of Gwendoline —presented these two works together for the first time. That volume included a new, color Stanton painting. The full-sized magazine positioned one to six panels on each page.

One ebook presents the complete content (except ads) of that book in its original form with the two original digest cover paintings included in color. To present the original pages at maximum size on screens, a second, digest-sized ebook consists only of the Sweeter Gwen episodes.

Two optimized ebooks present each comic separately, for ease of viewing and minimal scrolling. In these volumes, the page shape is a wide rectangle to take advantage of the aspect ratio of screens and Acrobat Reader.

Bound Over or The Missing Gwen de Lynn
Painting as Van Rod, Gene Bilbrew produced a parody of Mr. Willie's Gwendoline and The Missing Princess at about the same time. Some of the more than 55 episodes/panels recreate the original scenes in fluid gray watercolors and ink. Corsets, high heels, stockings and bondage devices decorate most of the images. Gwen is kidnapped.

The ebook includes all available panels with captions from volumes one and two, although the set is probably both unfinished and incomplete.

Display at Bizarre Manor
This eight-page comic is among the best of Mr. Bilbrew's pencil work. The style is similar to that of his Satellite Publishing product.
