This product consists of Part 1 of a two-part series.
The author of the lengthy essays that comprises each 64-page magazine is unnamed. I guess that a man with an interest in the subject collected the pictures over decades and proposed the project to the publisher. The drawings, paintings and photos reflect the styles of long-ago and must have been assembled from multiple sources. Although some of these images are now available on websites, the magazines predate the advent of internet galleries by many years.
Both volumes of Erotic Flagellation begin with the same introduction, identified as Editorial. The writer claims that German culture has long been occupied with sex and power. He says, “This work is essentially a pictorial survey of the back end of Eros, mostly from the nineteenth and early twentieth century, and it reflects that peculiarly Teutonic obsession, 'the fascination of the abomination,' as Joseph Conrad once wrote.” Some pictures are German in origin and others are derived from French, British and other European sources.
The writer has deep fluency in his subject — as he defines it — and knowledge of academic procedures for presentation of premises. He quotes or refers to old and newer literature, drawing on the work of Shakespeare, Greek playwright Lucian, A.S. Neill (author of Summerhill), Dr. Harold Greenwald (author of The Sex-Life Letters), Anthony Crowel (author of The Body Abusers), Jean Jacques Rousseau, Dr Iwan Bloch (author of The Sexual Extremities of the World,), Albert Ellis (author of The American Sexual Tragedy), Dr. Eric Berne (author of Games People Play), Dr. Albert Reissner (author of The Sado-Masochistic Compulsion), Dr. Kenneth Walker (author of The Psychology of Sex), and others.
The author uses references to ideas expressed in scholarly works to provide credence for his own views. He illustrates the longevity of certain practices by noting their description in old books.
The four components of Part 1 are named on page 2:

The full-size ebook presents all the content of the 64-page magazine, including ads. Page sequence was revised to achieve continuity of prose pieces.
Many Eros Goldstripe magazines have color photography on eight pages. Color in illustrations, type and borders were converted to gray scale for the ebook as they add no information and detract from the historic quality of images.
Tonality was adjusted. In many cases, especially in the case of photographs, images are easier to see in the ebook than on paper. Image editing helps to distinguish figures from dark backgrounds.

The images show men and women at either end of whips. A few pictures only show bondage. For those with an interest in this esoteric subject, the magazine expresses personal views of one individual, supported by the writing of others. With all that's currently available on websites, illustrations may be experienced as a mix of familiar images and newly-found antiques.
