In the 1960s, about half of Mr. Burtman’s magazines were distributed by a company called All States, out of Chicago. By 1966, All States was bankrupt and disappeared, owing Mr. Burtman $180,000.
The financial crisis resulted in a new alliance with Reuben Sturman of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Sturman is generally recognized as the covert publisher or distributor of most of the adult magazines in the US from 1960 through 1990. Robert Blue called him “the King of Porn.” Unique World reflects the continuing connection between Mr. Sturman and Mr. Burtman, after his California migration, with ads for magazines and sex toys by mail order out of Cleveland.

At its best, Unique World presented photo narratives of dominant females in fetish leather, engaged in vicious punishment. Volume 5, Number 1, mixes femdom scenarios with a photo set that shows a model in bondage and another that pictures drenching fetish.

The writer describes a litany of activities dominating women enjoy to hurt and subjugate men. He connects their inclinations to male masochism. Prostitutes who perform domination rituals are quoted. Photographs of women in high-heeled shoes and boots illustrate subjugation practices involving fetishism.

Unique World is the direct descendant of Bizarre Life magazine, both of which were published by Leonard Burtman. If we judge by his lifetime oeuvre, scenarios that depict women in leather bringing men to their knees were among his favorite themes.

The page-3 editorial asks, “The desire to be subjected to agonizing pain at the hands of a domineering Bitch Goddess — a strange compulsion, isn't it?” This issue of Fetiche features shapely models in high heels.
