As a prose work, Erotic Fetishism brims with sensuous details of sexual scenarios and conversations that involve fetish objects. Packaged as non-fiction, narratives of fetish-focused encounters are couched as case studies, providing first names of patients.

Dr. Marshall provides analytic comments about action or attitude cases expose. He writes about the psychological symbolism of objects and laments their necessity for functionality in couples.

For example, Doris K, says, “I wish I could have been a boy. I wish I could have been strong and powerful so that I could rape a girl and prove that I was the master! But I was a girl. So when I made the scene with another girl, I dictated the methods we would use. I was the she-master and in full charge.”

Dr. Marshall comments, “We see here that Doris has an obsession about being masculine and that in her lesbian frustration of being without a phallus, she looks about for a symbolic substitute. This would appear to be leather.”

In its pursuit of clinical style, patients describe feelings, their partners preferences, and activities. The author explains the significance of their cravings. Case history texts present all kinds of kinky tableaux in the voice of erotic fiction. But here, the professional pose eschews vernacular.

As a collection of fetish-oriented photographs from the early 1970s, Erotic Fetishism draws on photo tableaux that seem tailored for Bizarre Life, Unique World or other zines with femdom/fetish themes. The difference is penetration, absent in Goldstripe zines.

Although a few pictures show men in charge, most show attractive models in nylons, heels and leathery fetish costumes in command. Male and female models use dildoes, strap-ons, rope, and varied punishment utensils.

Ten chapters expose a candid array of popular fetish interests: leather, rubber, rope bondage, high-heeled shoes and boots, lingerie, and clothing items — hosiery, gloves, panties, corsets. Hair, buttocks, and breasts are mentioned. About 21000 words.

The digital replica provides all content of the book in the original sequence of prose and pictures. The ebook presents the contents on about 200 pages, as does the 1971 paperback. Covers, a bibliography of more than 50 citations, and three pages of advertising are included.

The brightness and contrast of photographs and illustrations were adjusted and many specks re-touched.

All new scans. Female and male nudity. Penetration.

The optimized ebook presents only the picture content of the volume. Eight color photographs appear first, followed by monochrome photos with original captions. Illustrations, mostly by Bilbrew and Stanton, are clustered at the end. The optimized technique provides full-screen presentation of 100+ images.

With surprising insight and diligence, Dr. Marshall attacks his subject with candor and imagination. His analyses of symbolic objects and oral rituals seem plausible in the narrative contexts of his case histories. While pictures don't precisely align with adjacent text, they show fetish items as ornamentation of sexual scenes as found in Eros Goldstripe publications of the time. Two ebook iterations deliver this conscientious work with convenience for 21st century readers.
