After the last Exotique magazine in 1959, Mr. Burtman launched Connoisseur and Masque magazines, each of which lasted about four issues. At the same time, other publishers (e.g., Tele-Photo and Zucca) produced similar digest-sized magazines, focusing on fetishes. We've seen them advertised in the full-sized Selbee magazines of the 1960s. They mimics Exotique in many ways:

• 64 black and white interior pages
• color cover by Gene Bilbrew
• short stories and articles about fetish dress-up
• Bilbrew illustrations
• photos of models in corsets, stockings, long leather gloves, high-heeled shoes and boots.

Connoisseur, Two, C-2

Connoisseur Two consists of three prose pieces, Gene Bilbrew illustrations and photographs of sexy women. The language oozes with superlative admiration of the fetish apparel worn by female characters.

In her Footwear Fashions essay, Evelyn Adams says that men should be taught how to wear tall leather boots at home. She advises good practices for lacing and walking in high heels.

She also contributes short fiction titled The Adventures of Angela Harte. The story tells of urban girl-gangs that organize around appreciation of leather, satin or silk clothing and compete for the attention of boys. The Leather Ladies force Angela into a strange girdle and high-heeled boots.

The Weekend at Newberry story by Robert Albright presents a first-person account of an exotic soiree at which three wives dressed in figure-hugging fetish attire and high heels participate in kissing games. Later that night, a demanding beauty in rubber visits the narrator in his bedroom and introduces him to unimagined pleasures.

Connoisseur Two magazine has first-class, full-page photographs, sultry models, a few unexpected illustrations, and conscientious manufacture. Tonality was adjusted and most specks have been removed from the photographs, improving the viewing experience. Most photography is set in Mr. Burtman's home, often using his bar as a background.

Extatique, Two

The copy that served as source for the ebook had pages 3 and 4 cut out. The second half of editor Greg Herrick's introduction says, “Our magazine deals with examples of . . . fetishes and the people who enjoy them.” The cover says, “A New Publication of Fancy Fashion Fantasy.”

In form and focus, Extatique, Two, resembles Exotique, Connoisseur, Ultra, and Masque magazines. Mr. Bilbrew's art dominates this issue, with full page illustrations that relate to short stories and an episode of his Blue Lace comic serial on four pages.

Generally, the fiction suggests that personal and inter-personal difficulties are quickly resolved when women fit themselves into tightly-laced corsets and high-heeled footwear. Letters to the editor have similar premises.

Photo tone was adjusted and most specks removed. In the digital replica, content appears in the sequence of the original, but some page layouts have been revised with re-positioned captions.
