In Female Mimics, we meet men who entertain professionally, singing, dancing and telling jokes on the stages of cabarets. The seventh issue of this classic magazine focuses on successful performers and talented transvestites. Every pictorial includes at least one picture of the model as a male and many show the application of make-up.

Expert with wigs and make-up, Ginger Halliday shows off pretty legs at home. A hobbyist, Donna Mae models dresses in her living room. Hollywood actresses inform Mischelle's knowledge of hair-styling and cosmetics.

In kitchen and other domestic settings, Jinx Austin relaxes in varied feminine outfits, including a bikini. A drama student, La Rey is fond of fishnets and sweaters.

Photographs show a wide assortment of costumes for New Orleans' Mardi Gras. Streets bustle with all kinds of festive celebrators.

In this issue of Female Mimics, cabaret performer Robin Roberts is called Windy Starr. In ornate blond wig, tight-fitting gown, taut nylons, garter belt, bustier and
panties, he flirts
with the camera
at home.

A popular entertainer in his day, 82 Club star Hans Crystal is seen at home in both blond and brunette wigs. The text says that he's been taking hormone treatments and pictures show the results. He poses his petite proportions in undies, dresses and sportswear prior to sex change surgery in Europe.

A feature pictures dress-up artists at an annual festival of hats and wigs in Los Angeles. They present convincing femmes in fancy frocks.

A fine Gene Bilbrew pencil sketch introduces the short story Dial FM for Fun by Leda Crane. Two people meet on the beach and mistake each other's gender.

The digital replica contains all the content of the original 72-page magazine, including letters from readers (with snapshots) and advertising. Some page layouts have been changed. Page sequence was revised to obtain continuity of the story.

Photo tone was adjusted, and some specks retouched, achieving bright images and mostly smooth textures. The original magazine has good photography and the ebook makes the most of it.

All new scans.

Looking at photos of these lovely fellas en femme disorients. While we know these are men in drag, they present convincing feminine illusions.

The digital replica provides the best mechanism for enjoying this volume of frilly 20th century impersonator nostalgia, featuring faces and figures of comely misters.
