Although Sari Publications of Los Angeles (best remembered for Night and Day) produced a magazine titled Bronze Beauties Revue, we think Bronze Beauties, Annual Edition, isn't related to it. The type faces don't match and the two zines have pages of different proportions. If it were a Sari product, it would say so, give an address and date.

Possibly, the toplessness of the lovelies in the booklet position it on the far side of propriety for its day, and the publishers thought a veil of anonymity would make them difficult-to-find if an ambitious prosecutor became aware of the daring content. The deliberate anonymity of Bronze Beauties, Annual Edition, renders its origins a mystery.

But quality is obvious in all details. The photography is better than good and production generally conscientious.

Each picture set of ten amply-proportioned models is spaced over four or six pages. Three of the beauties are indeed “bronze”: Pat Powell, Tammy Sanders and cover girl Chris Darling, who is uncensored on interior pages. The other “curvaceous cuties” are Caucasian. They include Loretta Lynly, Toni Stevens, Carmen Alonzo, Suzie Palmer, and Janet Ross.

Sixty-eight larger-than-digest-size pages have a mix of big and tiny photographs. Models wear stockings, garters, garter belts and pumps, some with high heels. Ms. Ross shows off in shiny platform boots.

Two pages present four illustrations by Gene Bilbrew. One page has a cartoon by Mr. Ward.

Professional photographers did excellent work, directing pinup models during posing sessions. Some slender, some zoftig, each shapely lass exposes what's prettiest about herself in these sets. Some of the stockings have a gleam produced by airbrush paint.

The Bronze Beauties, Annual Edition, ebook provides a true digital replica of the unique original, a nicely made volume packaged to attract fans of models of African descent. Although they appear on only about 25 percent of the pages, the zine is a satisfying pinup piece, with unexpected fetish treats.
