In addition to Red Garter, International Publications produced Gusto, Vegas!, Chere, and Tomkat. Their products had the word FRANCE on covers.

The articles of Red Garter tell stories, usually in the first person from a man's point of view, illustrated with photographs of one or two models. Plenty pretty, the curvaceous posers appear on almost every page, sometimes twice. They wear stockings, garter belts, nighties, and, in some pictures, just a smile. One photo shows a garter.

The prose seems especially silly 48 years after publication — sexist nonsense created to fill space on pages. One piece advises men to carry a slide rule to impress women.

Another describes events at an annual carnival of sex in Bavaria. Two features present unusual epitaphs and double entendre quips from lovelorn letters.

The large-format digital replica shows all content of the 56-page magazine. Two pages were moved to obtain continuity of the story about a lonely guy who uses black magic to conjure a date in his apartment. Picture tonality has been adjusted in pursuit of clarity and many specks re-touched. Except for the centerfold, all photos are monochrome. All original scans.

Image editing makes pictures and text clear when viewed in acrobat reader at full size. Zooming-in discloses patterns, rough textures and other defects that are the results of the printing process, scratched printing plates and the aging of paper and ink.

A bevy of pleasing pinups in a mix of straight-guy fantasy, advice and speculation, Red Garter gives us a lot to smile about. This bit of naughty nostalgia piques memories of our youthful curiosity about the mysteries of womankind.
