Dr. Bienvenu's dissertation does not mention Fantastique magazine or Sheba Publishing Company. My bet is that this was an impromptu venture involving the photographer and his associates. My guess is that all of the photos were taken in the same home or studio set up to look like an apartment.
The content of Fantastique 3 serves an exotic assortment of fetish delicacies, with an abundance of exotic footwear with platforms. High-heeled shoes and boots, full-fashioned stockings, garter belts, long gloves, corselettes, fishnets and a waist-cincher fit nicely on curvaceous cuties with cheerful smiles. These lovelies seem to know that they're wearing ultra-sexy deshabille and get a kick out of it.
The cover describes the magazine as “A New Publication of Fancy-Fashion – Fantasy,” and many of the shoes and boots displayed inside exceed the most dramatic fetish indulgence. In other words, those who have an interest in mid-century photographs of shapely models in high heels will have little opportunity to lament that these heels aren't high enough. For heel fetishists, Fantastique, in its day, was as conscientiously focused as any magazine on the west side of the Atlantic.
The original photography is good+ and pictures do not show the undesirable shadows that are produced with inept flashbulb photography. We could reasonably infer from the absence of dark shadows that the room was lit with flood lights, which would most likely be owned and used by a professional photographer.
About half the pages in the 60-page booklet show the sultry charmer of the cover. She shows off slender legs in full-fashioned stockings, outrageous platform pumps with ankle straps and knee-high leather boots. The beret-topped sweetheart of the back cover wears boots with two-inch platforms and contrasting white laces. Bettie Page and Jackie Miller appear once. All fetish dames are presented one to a page. No text on any page.
Photographs have been adjusted and cropped; most specks have been re-touched. When feasible, an enlargement of legs, high heels, boots or other tasty detail is shown next to the complete picture or on the following page. All pictures are clear and bright. All original scans.
