Wisconsin farm girl Frannie Hill leaves her dull small town in search of adventure and sex. On the bus ride to New York City, she meets sophisticated Lee Martin, an older man she finds intensely attractive.

At his posh penthouse, she meets his feisty assistant Norma, and French maid Marte, who teaches Frannie about the pleasures of woman-to-woman love. Initially, Lee upsets Frannie when he goes about his business instead of giving Frannie the expert introduction to womanhood she expects from him. But Norma arranges a soiree with Ralph, who has a special passion for virgins. With him, she gets the experience she sought by moving to the city.

Frannie soon understands that Lee runs an international escort business, connecting pretty young women with wealthy men. She works a lot of rationalization to manage her guilt about being a call girl, but the extravagant pay and her immense sexual appetite distract from moral concerns.

She enjoys sex and her clients have wonderful nights with her, comfortable with Frannie's friendliness and appeal. Her persistent desire leads to liaisons in Europe, where she makes John, Harry, Cyril, and Ted happy and vice versa. She develops an involved relationship with Earl, who prefers his women wrapped in fur. Frannie arranges a meeting between Earl and Marte, which turns out nicely for everyone.

Sweet Frannie speaks the voice of the narrator in relaxed, first-person prose. She describes her own beauty with candor, but is just as enthusiastic about the figures of other women she meets. Language includes buzz words of that time and vestiges of 1950s sexism. Lovely Frannie's quest to become worldly and her insatiable desire render her an ideal character for erotic fiction. That she frequently debates the virtue of her new lifestyle discloses her innocence, but the pleasure she derives from the men she meets silences misgivings.

As the book was written in 1966, descriptions of sexual encounters employ an oblique vocabulary that requires readers to connect the dots. Frannie Hill might realize male fantasy about shapely blonds who always think about sex.

The text has been completely re-set for the ebook version. Editing changes only a small amount of spelling, punctuation and words. 37,000 words.

With a painted cover by Gene Bilbrew, this 1966 classic explores the thoughts and feelings of a young woman on a journey of sexual discovery. Although the vocabulary continues anatomical and sexual euphemism of the 1950s, the scenes and circumstances add up to an intimate account of erotic adventures.
