In Selbee/Health Knowledge iterations of Female Mimics magazine, we meet men who entertain professionally, singing, dancing and telling jokes on the stages of cabarets. In the first issue of Female Mimics showing the Eros Goldstripe ribbon on its cover, we find two additional ingredients: homosexuality and transvestite fiction.

The scenario titled Deceiving Blonde unfolds on 26 pages, many in color. At a park, Tony connects with a slender cutie who calls herself Michelle. As they get to know more about each other in the apartment, he sees the deception: feminine though the blonde in stockings and corselette may be, this is a genuine Michael. Lots of kissing, fondling and nudity.

Introduced by a Gene Bilbrew illustration, a long short story describes the evolution of Bill to Kathey. He meets Deanna, a transvestite trainer, who shows him how to effectively use voice, cosmetics and undergarments to present a convincing female persona in public. The prose has explicit descriptions of fetish costumes and accessories that develop pleasurable sensations for the protagonist.

The remainder of the magazine informs us about professional female impersonators and a festive venue where they perform. Many large photographs depict performers on the glittering stage of New York's 82-Club. Smiling singers and dancers show off their sequins, fringes, feathers, chiffon, satin, and lamé.

Glammed-up party-goers are seen having fun at the Variety Club's Pre-Thanksgiving Costume and Masquerade Ball. Lovelies of all types expose their feminine side in frilly fashions and sexy frocks.

Publicity stills show scenes from The Christine Jorgensen Story. In one photo, she stands next to the star of the film.

The cover story introduces us to handsome Danny La Rue, who became a popular entertainer in Great Britain. His success enabled him to open his own London cabaret, where Danny impersonates famous people in his audience.

We also meet pretty Brigette Dior from Canada. In an assortment of costumes and wigs, she flirts with the camera. Other content includes a one-page Eric Stanton comic and an album of female impersonator greats.

The digital replica contains all the content of original magazine, including advertising. Some page layouts have been revised. Photographs have been adjusted in pursuit of clarity and provide a better view than the original. Page sequence was revised to achieve logical progression in the Deceiving Blonde picture set and continuity in the short story.

The original Goldstripe zine has excellent content, and the ebook provides the best mechanism for enjoying it.
