Nylon Mood, Vol. 1, No. 1
Women's hosiery has been a popular fetish for more than a century. Arrow Publications, Inc., produced a Stocking Parade magazine issue every month during the late 1930s. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, a dozen different magazines may have had the words stocking, nylon, or hose in their titles. Many leg magazines continue the tradition in the 21st century.

The second issue of Nylon Mood shows us the shapely gams of 12 different models, each dressed up in sheer nylons — RHT and full-fashioned. This magazine is true to its title with stockings in almost every picture. Hosiery is held in place by garter belts and garters. Lovely ladies wear lace panties, nice mules and pumps, most with three-inch heels.

Models include Tina Maddison, Cathy Nelson, Gina Montano, Vikki Marlo, Diane Roberto, Chantale Goddard and Jan Jeffries. Most photography was accomplished in studios, bedrooms and living rooms. Beds, sofas, chairs and a loveseat play major roles in most photo sets. “Polar Babe” Mari Sorenson shows us her lithe limbs in soaked stockings at the seashore.

Page layouts and graphics reflect modern style, with asymmetrical arrangements, lots of white space, unexpected alignments, and combinations of large and small photographs on a page. As was typical of pinup magazines of those times, obvious air brush work paints gleam on much of the hosiery and some figure features. In this issue, most airbrushing appears on large pictures.

A few photographs have captions about models. In several pictorials, copious text parodies nursery rhymes, song lyrics, and advertising slogans of the 1960s.

The 72-page magazine has one short story about a geisha fatale. The sequence of pages has been revised slightly to position the text of the story on succeeding pages. Page layouts have been retained. The tonality of images was adjusted slightly and many specks re-touched.

Nylon Mood magazine was a good product for its time, embracing styles and vernacular of the early 1960s. The ebook replica and its digital adjustments allow a clear view of pretty pinups from another era.

Glamor Girl, No. 9
Measuring a modest 4” by 5.2”, Glamor Girl, No. 9, pictures an unexpected charmer in an assortment of deshabille on 30 pages. The diminutive size of this volume suggests that a man might carry it unobtrusively in an inside jacket pocket, handy for a secluded moment of examination.

The pictures appear to have been taken in a home, and we see our cozy cutie in the living room, bedroom, and, even more powerfully, in the kitchen. With movie-star good looks and an impeccable figure, the image of her standing by the stove — wearing only apron, pumps and that oh-so-womanly smile — cooks the stuff of daydreams (“Honey, I'm home”). An alluring seductress, she convinces us that she's all about having fun: being pretty, playing the slot machine, sipping a cocktail, or letting her nightie naughtily fall away on your bed. Her superb shape and cheerful serenity recall the graceful ease of Diane Weber.

The digital replica reflects adjustment of picture tonality and re-touching of specks and streaks. Ebook page size duplicates the dimensions of the original. Generally, skin tone and focus are good.

The publisher of Glamor Girl fails to give the model's name, an address or a date, and claims that pictures of the nearly naked figure are intended to inform photographers, artists and art directors. But the product leaves no uncertainty about actual intent, which is to pique erotic interest. The ebook reconstructs an obscure relic of pinup history, and offers a clear view of past-century fantasy.
