We believe Countess Anne when she characterizes her work on Lashes magazine — an enterprise she accomplishes without assistants — as a labor of love. Although we've also seen her working as a model, we appreciate her sincerity and authenticity when she writes about the pleasure she derives from hurting submissives who seek her attention as professional dominatrix.
In a thoughtful editorial, Countess Anne explains why men are violent toward women. This kind of candor may explain the enduring popularity of Lashes.
I believe that most men are caught up in a terrible dilemma of their own making even though it is not usually deliberate on their part. It comes from a male oriented society and a patriarchal god. I am quite convinced that most males are absolutely terrified of women and that they have & huge resentment toward women because of it. At the same time they find women totally irresistable and completely necessary to their happiness. As you can see this is a remarkably difficult conflict that seems unresolvable. I even believe that the typical rapist and wife beater is a male who does what he does because of his ingrained fear and fascination for women. Research seems to indicate that rape is not a sexual crime, but a crime of violence. If so, why women victims? Why doesn't the rapist seek out other males to do violence upon? It cannot be explained simply because she is weaker physically. The rapist and woman abuser is trying to exorcize his demon which is his overwhelming fear and resentment.
I say most males because the one thing I have surely discovered is that the truly submissive males I have dealt with (hundreds of them) seem to be free of this fear and resentment while keeping this love, fascination and sexual desire for women. If this sounds contradictory let me explain why I think this is so.
I am convinced that men fear women because they sense that women are as a sex, both greatly superior and also possessed of a mystical and spiritual quality that transcends both time and space. These qualities are hers as a birth right and not something she attains as a result of training or maturing. She is born superior. She may do many foolish things to deny or cover up her superiority, but it is there nevertheless.
In any relationship where the male recognizes and does not resent female superiority there is a relationship which promises to become synchronized with the natural order of the universe. It doesn't always happen because the imprint of society is strong—very strong. It is so difficult to overcome those years of conditioning.
. . . I think there will never be an end to wars, famine, social injustice and unnecessary struggle and strife until men in huge numbers recognize who they really are and what their really natural relationship to the WOMAN is. It is not up to the woman to do this because she has been deliberately and cruelly exploited and crushed by the male dominanted society. Perhaps this is not entirely so as one sees women working hard for equality and equal opportunity. But that is not enough. I believe the natural order is that women are by birth superior and only when men willingly and joyfully submit to women will there be real peace and harmony on earth.
This issue's pictorials show Countess Anne engaged in punishing an older man named Latrina, who she wrote about in her Bizarre Diary book series. She works him over wearing red and black leather outfits with matching boots and a lace-trimmed blue corselet with stockings and heels. He performs body worship, gets whipped and drinks “golden champagne.”
A wife named Sonia contributes the first part of a domination memoir titled My Story. It, too, seems authentic, plausible and sincere.
When I met my husband he was ready and in a condition to be ruled and disciplined by a woman. I think this aroused in me this spark of sadism, which lay dormant in the depths of my being and which has made me an eager spanker and a passionate whipper. Indeed, I acknowledge, I enjoy spanking with a great energy and I love to whip him with a martinet or a riding crop.
At first with my husband I inflicted love and pain for him and I got love and pleasure for myself. . . I always wear a leather dress when I inflict corporal chastisement. I love the feeling of the leather on my bare skin. It excites me to feel a leather strip, very tight between my ass cheeks and the feel of my thigh high leather boots on my bare thighs is fantastic!
I also love the smell of leather. Generally I wear a tight, leather G-string pulled high between my buttocks, high leather boots and leather gloves. My breasts are always bare because they are very hard and have observed they become still more hard when I am chastising. When I use my whips I wear a small leather mask. This lends a very bizarre effect.
When I am dressed like this and I look at myself in the mirror there grows in me a feeling of strength. My pussy becomes wet. I feel electrical and powerful and the urge to spank or whip is violent.
