During the past 10 years of making ebooks for our international clientele, quality and entertainment value have been guiding ideals. Hilbarth magazines with text and illustrations were scanned, page-by-page, and pages (about 48) were sequenced in a magazine-sized ebook. Many of these products have a second optimized ebook of the pictures.

The Agony by Appointment product presents the content of a Hilbarth magazine in a new way. For the first time, the text of a Hilbarth magazine has been scanned separately and placed on pages as text rather than as pictures of pages containing paragraphs.

The technique permits close correlation between images (and optimized details) and the prose they picture. With 13000 words and 80+ images, it's a time-consuming process.

the story

Doctor Zaro provides domination services for his lusty, lovely patients. They visit his office seeking punishment and he enjoys delivering the abuse they demand. Nurse Olson, who also craves pain, assists the doctor in his kinky escapades in the office and on the road.

Episodes describe dynamics between the cruel doctor and each of his masochistic devotees. The skillful prose exposes Zaro's leather fetish. His submissive voluptuaries dress in tight leather gloves and boots to inspire their tormentor.

The competent narrative explores the aggressive and hedonistic drives of kinky characters. The doctor's wildness introduces his last victim to her own strange need to be used.

the art

The pictures that illustrate the story show the skill of the Great Bill Ward at the peak of his abilities. While some of his female characters in other works show fear or anguish during punishment, many of these pictures suggest a graceful serenity in the countenances of voluptuous volunteers who want abuse from Doctor Zaro. He often appears angry when responding to clients' requests for bondage or spanking, and relaxed while enjoying their busty bounty.

These 1972 ink renderings show little nudity — a few pubic curls. The doctor bulges within his briefs. The ladies wear panties or have limbs arranged to conceal genitalia.

Female characters dress in fetish attire. Nylons, corsets, garter belts, long gloves and high-heeled footwear gleam on fantastic bodies.

The text was completely re-set for the ebook. A few changes were made to divide long sentences and, in a few cases, eliminate modifiers. Spelling and punctuation were corrected.

To accomplish close alignment of pictures and prose, some pages have both. In this pursuit, some text-only pages contain but a few sentences and some pages show only art.

The brightness and contrast of images were adjusted for clarity.

The optimized ebook page size was expanded for this volume to make the most of the large pictures in the paper publication. Tasty fetish details — such as action, legs, high heels and corsets — appear on separate pages as virtual enlargements, reducing the need for zooming and scrolling.

The original publication had the construction and dimensions of a full-sized magazine. The layout alternated text on even-numbered pages with pictures on odd-numbered pages. In the original, a caption was placed below each illustration. In the ebook, complete illustrations, including borders, are placed on the right end of pages, and captions appear on the left, in italics.

The product includes an optimized ebook containing only the fine Bill Ward art. His 22 pictures are optimized on 80+ ebook pages.

Enlargements of illustration details expose the energy and artistry of a productive 20th century illustrator. The ebooks express appreciation and respect for his talent at showing fantasy hedonists at play.
